Invisible Forces: From Cosmic Chaos to Economic Patterns

Like many, reading Foundation led me to study economics (in France). I have since worked in the UK, Canada, Denmark and Sweden researching how people behave. From ancient Assyria, Imperial Rome, Revolutionary France, Thatcherite England to modern Umeå, taxes are both a policy tool and a research instrument. In this talk I'll attempt to convince you that "taxes" rule!

Jeenu Jegy and Nils Skoglund study the chemical characteristics of ashes produced in industrial scale combustion to evaluate their potential for nutrient recycling. Using both laboratory methods and synchrotron based X ray techniques, they explore elemental forms and structural transformations in these complex materials.

Dany Waller is a PhD student focused on Mercury and the Moon at Umeå University. As a planetary scientist and engineer, she works on missions to develop new instruments and explore magnetic environments across the solar system.

From small asteroids to giant planets, magnetic fields shape the solar system in surprising ways. This talk explores how passive and active magnetic processes create diverse magnetic environments, revealing hidden interiors, protecting atmospheres, and driving spectacular space weather phenomena.
