Welcome to the third year of the Pint of Science festival in Lund! We are excited to welcome you to three nights of exciting science talks and pub quizzes at John Bull Pub. Tonight, come learn about travelling to outer space, as well as going on a slightly different kind of 'trip'.
NOTE: The event is completely free and open to walk-in to the public. Registering for a ticket is optional, but it helps us gauge interest for the event!

Do You Need Sunscreen When Travelling to an Exoplanet? A UV Survival Guide for Alien Worlds
Bibiana Prinoth
(PhD Student)
Planning an interstellar vacation? Before you pack your bags, you might want to check the UV forecast! Some exoplanets orbit so close to their stars that they’re bombarded with extreme ultraviolet radiation—enough to vaporise metals and create scorching, alien weather. But do these worlds have their own version of sunscreen? In this talk, we’ll explore how astronomers search for molecules that can block UV light in exoplanet atmospheres, why some planets might have built-in protection while others are left to sizzle, and what this all tells us about their climate. Get ready for a crash course in cosmic sun safety!

The psychedelic experience and its neuronal basis
Dr Pär Halje
(Associate Researcher)
I will go through the psychedelic experience from a psychological perspective and talk about what is known about its neuronal basis based on human neuroimaging studies and neurophysiological studies on animals. I will review what we know about it s therapeutic mechanisms and also touch on how psychedelics might be used a tool to study consciousness.
