We are excited to invite you to the first event in Göteborg for Postdoc Appreciation Week (PAW)! Over 2 days, 4 speakers will describe their current research to you in a casual setting in a room with a view at Chalmers. Please join us to learn more about current research making an impact on the future of biotechnology supported by Proteintech.
Mucins and gut microbiota
Dr. Grete Raba
(Postdoctoral Researcher, Department of Chemistry and Biotechnology, Tallinn University of Technology; and Department of Medical Biochemistry and Cell Biology, University of Gothenburg)
The gut mucus creates a layer that prevents close contact between the gut microbiota and the intestinal epithelium. The major components of this mucus layer are mucins, complex glycoproteins that are decorated with hundreds of sugars. My research is focused on understanding hot microbiota-mucin interactions impact the gut colonization in health and disease.
Your parcel has been delivered: Lipid nanoparticles as a drug delivery system
Dr. Jennifer Gilbert
(Postdoctoral Researcher, Department of Life Sciences, Chalmers University of Technology)
Lipid nanoparticles for nucleic acid drug delivery are a rapidly advancing area of research and their application in the SARS-Cov-2 was incredibly effective. But we still have a long way to go in terms of understanding their behaviour and optimisation – even the best performing formulations only have around 2% efficiency. In order to improve this, we are focussing on understanding the structure and composition of lipid nanoparticles (LNP) and how they interact with lipid membranes, such as fusion and/or cargo release.
