Introduction to Live Cell Image Analysis - aka how AI is stealing my job... and I'm okay with that

Eva Danielson (Science Communicator)
In cellular research, deciphering the immune system's battle against diseases is like diving into a superhero saga. Live cell image analysis lets scientists watch host-pathogen showdowns in high throughout, like a cellular royal rumble with countless potential treatments in the ring.
Enter AI. It's turned image analysis from a slog into a sprint, crunching numbers faster than a caffeine-fueled grad student. No more pixel counting; now we're free to focus on decoding the immune system's secrets. AI's like trading your pocket calculator for a supercomputer - minus the existential crisis.
Sure, AI's stealing jobs, but it's freeing us from the pixel-counting grind. We're awash in images faster than a stressed-out grad student, but it's worth it for the breakthroughs. With evolving AI, we can mine old images for new insights like a treasure buried in data.
AI's speeding up research, potentially saving lives - now if only we could figure out what to do with all the grad students... anyone hiring?

Family witnessed resuscitation

Annette Waldemar (Adjunct university lecturer)
Several international organizations recommend family witnessed resuscitation (FWR) in hospitals, which means that the family should be offered to be present during resuscitation. These recommendations are based on research that shows that it is usually beneficial for the family to be present. The family can see that everything was done for the patient, they can say goodbye, they acknowledge that the patient passed away and the grieving process is facilitated.
Healthcare professionals (HCPs) in general are sceptical of FWR, and current guidelines that recommend FWR have not made a significant impact in healthcare. HCPs believe that FWR could worsen the outcome for the patient and that the family could be psychologically damaged by being present during resuscitation but that is not usually the through. It is important that the family is not denied the option to be present during CPR.
Surviving or witnessing a cardiac arrest in-hospital is a difficult experience for patients and family members. They are often vulnerable and feel insignificant and abandoned. They need to be seen and heard, both in the hospital and after discharge. HCPs need to show compassion and tend to the family's needs, which means continuously evaluating how family members are coping during the cardiac arrest event, as well as providing support and information both during and after resuscitation.
